Our History

W.C. Black and Sons, Inc. is a family owned and operated company and represents three generations of experience in the Land Clearing, Demolition, Grading, Excavating, and Hauling businesses. We have earned a solid reputation for honesty and reliability throughout the Carolinas by providing quality site work solutions focused on the exact needs of our customers. W.C. Black and Sons, Inc. has become a leader in our fields of expertise by performing exceptional Land Clearing Services, Grading Services, Excavation Services, Demolition Services, and Hauling Services. It is our philosophy to provide the same high quality services/solutions to our customers that we would expect utilizing our knowledge, experience, and well trained personnel.

Our story began with our grandfather, Willie Clarence Black, back in 1947. After returning home from distinguished service in the United States Army in World War 2, he bought an old truck and began a contract hauling business in Marion, North Carolina. Five years later, he began hauling freight for various companies, which continued until 1978.

In 1978, W.C. Black and his oldest son Harold started our current company. They started with one dump truck in 1978, and by 1981, they had grown the company in both employee size and equipment to include six trucks and a front end loader. In 1981, our company began management and operation of a privately owned land fill site in western North Carolina, a project which lasted until 2006. Additionally in 1981, W.C. Black and Sons, Inc. also began offering commercial site work services. The following year, 1982, we began offering residential site work services as well. W.C. Black and Sons, Inc. began offering and conducting residential, commercial, and industrial demolition services in 1985.

Our current generation was trained on equipment at an early age and acquired the knowledge and skills necessary to conduct site work services of all types, on all terrains, and in all disciplines. In 2005, our current generation assumed control of the day to day operations of our company. Since 2005 our management team has undertaken several steps to increase efficiency and enhance our capabilities in efforts to improve productivity and reduce downtime.

In 2008, W.C. Black and Sons, Inc. began offering and conducting Junk and Refuse Removal Services in and around the Charlotte Metro area for residential and commercial clients. This service was an excellent addition specifically designed to complement our existing robust site work services offered.
